Highlights

This program travels you through the Khumbu Region, also known as the Everest Region, located in the Northeast of Nepal and on the Nepalese side of Mount Everest.  It occupies Sagarmatha National Park declared as a World Natural Heritage Site in 1979 with Mount Everest (8,848m or 29,029 ft) named as its highlight.
Unlike other parks, this park can be divided into four climatic zones because of the rising altitude.  The climatic zones include a forested lower zone, a zone of alpine scrub, the upper alpine zone which includes upper limit of vegetation growth, and the Arctic zone where no plants can grow.
You will hike past Gokyo Lakes which are located up to an altitude of 5000m (16,000 ft) and is reputably the world’s highest fresh water lake system.  A source of the water to this lake comes from Ngozumpa Glacier that lies beneath Cho Oyu.  The glacier is 36km’s long and is the largest in the whole of the Himalaya’s.  The village of Gokyo (4750m, 17,575 ft) is at the base of one of the lakes and will serve as an overnight stop. But that’s not before trekking up to Gokyo Ri (5360m) where it’s possible to see five of the 8,000 mountain peaks which include Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kangchenjunga and Cho Oyu.
After crossing the Cho La Pass, you

Sample day on "Gokyo Lake to Everest Base Camp Trek"
Our trek is managed by a team of professionally trained Leader(s) / guide(s) who have responsible for all aspects of the journey.  Your health, your safety, your enjoyment is taken with absolute professionalism to ensure a successful and memorable ascent to base camp.
Your day starts with a cup of hot tea usually served in your room along with a bowl of hot water to wash up a little.   After your luggage is packed and the porters prepare themselves for this journey, you sit down to breakfast.
After breakfast we set off on the trail, enjoying the pleasant cool morning air.  Your day's trek involves navigating through numerous picturesque forests, hills, mountains and local villages before stopping around midday for lunch.  Your midday lunch break usually lasts around an hour and is a time to relax, pop the boots off and air those feet!   Plenty of time is allowed for photograph along the way.  After lunch you'll walk another three hours or so, before you stop for the night. You have enough time to change, freshen up, before exploring the area.
Each evening is spent as per your interest whether that’s reading or chatting with other fellow trekkers.  We have found that having a deck of cards can be an advantage as the crew love teaching various Nepali card games while at the same time learning new Western ones.  Our porters and Sherpa's also like to have singing and dancing competitions in which they love you to join in!   Don’t be shy, you’re in the mountains now and your likely to me more the odd person out if you don’t.   Finally, it's off to bed for a well-deserved night's rest before you start it all again.

Important Note

Because of bad weather we could face problems with flights to or from Lukla.  Delays of a few hours or complete cancellations are rare but it could happen at the best of times regardless of season.  Thus, we always recommend you to add supplementary night/s in Kathmandu after your trek (for assurance purposes).  If everything runs smoothly, you can enjoy other activities like sightseeing, White water rafting, Wildlife activities, and shopping, just to name a few.  Otherwise, on your request, there is also a helicopter rescue service that could also be used should there be any flight cancellations to or from Lukla.

Trip Itinerary

Welcome to the Himalayan country of Nepal. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan international airport, our representative welcomes and assists you with transfer to your Kathmandu Hotel.  After time in getting refreshed, we will introduce you to your guide while at the same time provide a trip briefing.  That evening we welcome you to dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurant in the heart of Kathmandu.

After breakfast, your guided Kathmandu Valley trip will start at the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath.  Next visit is Nepal’s biggest stupa ‘Bouddhanath ‘ followed by a visit to Swoyambhunath Stupa (also known as the monkey temple). After exploring the surrounding areas, we visit the historical Kathmandu Durbar Square temples with its various unique architectures and hopefully a glimpse of Kumari (the Nepalese living goddess).

With an early morning start, we take a scenic 40 minute flight across hillsides and mountains from Kathmandu to the tiny airstrip of Lukla.   While the guide divides the baggage load to be carried by porters, you have time to stroll around town and pick up any last minute supplies needed.  Depending upon your arrival at Lukla will depend upon where the guide decides to rest up for lunch that day. Afternoon becomes an easy walk as you slowly descend 200m in altitude as you get to Phakding village for your overnight stop.  There is sufficient time to explore around the village for local knowledge.

After breakfast we continue our trek up the banks of the Dudh Kosi.  Crossing a few times using safe suspension bridges, we reach the village of Monjo, the gateway to the Sagarmatha National Park.  On entry to the National Park, we follow the river for about an hour before making another river crossing using once again another suspension bridge and climbing a further 600 meters to Namche Bazaar where we stay overnight.   Namche is a prosperous trading town and the capital of the Khumbu Region.

We will spend a day in Namche Bazaar resting and allowing our bodies to become acclimatized to the altitude of (3,440m/11,286ft).  You have the option to use this full day as leisure otherwise two other possibilities are to visit the Everest View Point hotel for wonderful panoramic view of surrounding mountains and or simply stroll around the town markets.   The markets become popular for locals on Saturday’s as many people from the mountains come down to trade and to also shop to fulfil their daily needs.  This is the only shopping market in the surrounding area so it’s best to stock up here if you need any particulars.  Another option is to visit the Sherpa Museum where you can learn a little about the history and culture of the Sherpa people as well as some history of mountaineering.

After stroll around the Namche area, we follow on the gradual trail with few short up and downs overlooking magnificent view of the great giant snow peaks at Shanasa. Our trek ascents the left side to Mongla hill and continue down to Phortse Thanga. After lunch further few hours walk ascending will reach at Dole for overnight. A small place with few teahouses and enjoy your night at Dole.

After breakfast we climb to the scenic ridge above the Dole and the trail continues to climb along the side of the valley high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to reach Machharmo. Afternoon after reaches and refreshed visit Himalayan rescue association and overnight at he hotel.

Today, we climb up to the ridge and can be seen excellent view both down the valley to Khangtega and northern part to the Cho-Oyu (8153m/26741ft). Our route descends to the river bank before beginning the climb up to the terminal moraine of the Ngazumpa glacier. Afterwards the trail levels out as it follows the valley past a second lake, known as Longponga at 4690m/15383ft. Enjoy the lake view and after an hour walk will reaches at Gokyo village on the edge of third lake.

This may have full day rest at Gokyo or have chance to explore up to the fifth lake passing another forth lake and enjoy the view. This is great place and an opportunity to view full part of Mt. Everest and Cho-Oyu. You can see the Northern part of Cho-Oyu base camp and biggest glacier of the world Ngazumpa glacier; and stroll back to hotel for overnight.

Early in this morning we hike up to Gokyo Ri for the breathtaking view of splash a sunrise top of the mountain including Mt. Everest view and many more Himalayan scenery. This will be unforgettable life time memories and enjoy around the top. We have a great memories and stroll back an hours to Gokyo for breakfast. We trek down to Thaknak for the overnight passing through the second lake and walk on the glacier.

This day is one of the tuff days to cross the Cho-la because of thee high pass. The pass is not difficult but it is steep and involves a glacier traverse on the eastern side. After crossing the Cho-la we reach at Dzongla for overnight. Enjoy the fantastic view around the high above.

We continue our trek along the moraine of the glacier, with views of Kalapathar and Pumori. You have good chances for the best view of Mt. Nuptse a front of you walking along the Gorekshep. The trail up to the Gorakshep is rocky and windy but it offers the good view of Pumori and there are beautiful views of the Everest Base camp and glacier with scenic Mountain View. We enjoy the night at Gorakshep the higher elevation.

After the breakfast at Gorekshep we ready for our adventure to the targeted destination and we continue our trek towards the Everest Base Camp and to the Khumbu Ice-fall. The walk is quite strenuous due to the high altitude and thin air, the walk passes through over rocky dunes and moraine and streams till you reach the base camp. Everest Base Camp is lively with commotion during the high expedition season. After a grand time here retrace the journey back to Gorekshep for the overnight at lodge.

Early morning our journey continues to climb to the top the famous viewpoint of Kalapatthar. After reaching the top, you will feel beaming as you achieve the moment that you been dreaming, since the beginning of the journey. Kalapathar is a small rocky peak on the southwest ridge of Mt. Pumori and the view from here is beyond imagination as the Everest looks amazing. You can also see the Everest Base camp down below on the moraine of Khumbu glacier and lot of picturesque scenery. After enjoying the panoramic views stroll back to Gorakshep and trek down to the Imja valley at Dingboche.

The walk today will be easy heading downhill to a lower elevation from Dingboche the walk is pleasant and all the way to Tyangboche. After the bridge our route descends following the stream towards Pangboche village, and further down to Tyangboche. Tyangboche is one of the most beautiful place in the Himalaya the first thing that comes to your eye is the big Monastery, then the large field with campsites and teahouses, lodges beneath the towering majestic beautiful peak Ama Dablam.

After breakfast treks down to Phunkethanga a small settlement with couple of teahouses. From here the trail leads downhill through the forested path with great memories and after crossing the local wooden bridge over the Dudh Koshi river trek onwards to steep climb to Sanasa to Namche bazzar and trek further down to Monjo for overnight stay.
