Highlights

Overview

Trekking to Everest via the Jiri route offers a unique opportunity to retrace the historical path followed by early Everest expeditions during the 1950s through the 1970s. This journey allows trekkers to immerse themselves in the densely populated middle hills and bask in the high-altitude splendor of the Khumbu, also known as the Everest region.
Commencing from the charming town of Jiri at an elevation of 1905 meters, the Everest trek via Jiri leads eastward, taking you through the enchanting forested hills of Solu and over the challenging 3530-meter Lamajura Pass. Along the way, you'll encounter monasteries and uninterrupted vistas of majestic mountains. The segment from Jiri to Lukla is often less frequented, offering a more serene and pristine trekking experience.
During this journey, you'll traverse the Lamjura La and Thaksindo before descending towards the rushing waters of the Dudh Koshi River. Following the meandering Dudh Koshi River northward, you'll pass through terraced hillsides and quaint villages until you join the main Everest trail below Lukla. By this point, you'll have adapted to the rhythm of life on the trail and, thanks to increased fitness, will ascend to the vibrant Namche Bazaar.
As you venture deeper into the Khumbu region, the mountain vistas gradually intensify with each step. Peaks such as Kwangde, Thamserku, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, the distinctive "horse saddle" of Kantega, and, of course, the awe-inspiring summit of Mount Everest itself become a part of your daily scenery.

The Everest trek via Jiri continues through Namche and follows the trail to Gokyo Lake, eventually reaching Everest Base Camp by crossing the challenging 5330-meter Cho La Pass. The journey culminates in Lukla, where an early morning mountain flight to Kathmandu provides an unforgettable and exhilarating conclusion to this remarkable trek via the Jiri route.
