Managed by World Himalaya, a respected travel company specializing in spiritual and cultural tours, this unique itinerary offers participants a blend of spiritual awakening, historical discovery, and natural beauty amidst the majestic landscapes of the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau.
Overview
The Kailash Guge Tour begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu, Nepal, or Lhasa, Tibet, to the town of Darchen, the starting point of the Kailash kora (circumambulation). Pilgrims embark on the sacred trek around Mount Kailash, a journey of devotion and self-discovery that spans approximately 52 kilometers over three days. After completing the kora, the tour continues with a visit to the ancient kingdom of Guge, known for its ancient ruins, cave temples, and rich cultural heritage. Pilgrims explore the remnants of Guge's once-glorious civilization, marveling at its intricately carved murals, Buddhist art, and architectural wonders.
Best Season
The Kailash Guge Tour is best undertaken during the summer months, from May to September, when the weather is relatively mild and the pilgrimage route and roads to Guge are accessible. During this time, pilgrims can enjoy clear skies, favorable temperatures, and stunning views of the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau. However, it's essential to be prepared for varying weather conditions, including occasional rainfall and sudden changes in temperature, especially during the monsoon season.
Difficulty
The Kailash Guge Tour is graded as a moderate to challenging journey, both physically and spiritually. The trek around Mount Kailash involves hiking at high altitudes, with elevations reaching over 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) at the Dolma La Pass, the highest point of the kora. Pilgrims must be physically fit and prepared for the rigors of high-altitude trekking, including steep ascents and descents, rocky terrain, and potentially adverse weather conditions. Additionally, the tour demands mental and emotional resilience, as participants navigate the physical challenges while maintaining a focused and reverent mindset throughout the journey.
